“Design must seduce, shape and perhaps more importantly, evoke an emotional response”
–April Greiman
Laurie Westberg, award-winning designer at Urban Interior Design, is Minneapolis-based, with projects spanning the U.S., including resort areas in Cozumel, Carlsbad, Berkeley, St. George and Lake Tahoe.
She has a colorful resume and background, which feature the diverse design aesthetics she acquired from working in fashion, architecture, art, and interior design.
Laurie started her path in New York as chief assistant to Peter Marino, world-famous architect best known for Barney’s and the Sidney Opera House.
Laurie’s exposure to such talent and creativity early on gave her a great appreciation for architectural lines and details, which she now integrates into her work.
Subsequently, Laurie lived in Milan and New York for 15 years where she pursued a career in fashion. She was exposed to one-of-a kind textiles, artwork, furnishings and accessories which were vibrant, rich, and eclectic. She credits her design knowledge and aesthetics to her exposure to European design sensibilities and American practicality. She also acquired the appreciation for design which incorporates functionality and aesthetics for smaller, historical spaces.
Her years of experience in these varying disciplines shows in her interior design work. Laurie utilizes unique materials and blends glass, metal, wood, and stone to create elementally balanced design. She adds accents like handmade baskets and ethnic accessories, which highlight Laurie’s connection to nature, and her global experience and travels.
Laurie pursued a degree in Interior Design at Salt Lake Community College, and was president of the student chapter of IIDA (International Interior Design Association). Laurie passed the LEED exam for Sustainable Building and Design in 2012 and strives to include green elements in all of her projects. She is a member of ASID, and was featured in an ASID (American Society of Interior Designers) Creative Brief May 27, 2015 titled “LEED and Sustainable Design.”
When she is not working at Urban Interiors, you will find her on the women’s build group for Habitat for Humanity, reading, biking, hiking or skiing.
Laurie’s exposure to such talent and creativity early on gave her a great appreciation for architectural lines and details, which she now integrates into her work.
Here at Urban Interiors we share Laurie’s passion for travel, art, global aesthetics, and unconventional design. It is our mission to create innovative, emotion-evoking personal and functional spaces.
